“A BOY AND HIS DREAM”

a documentary

A.J. Margolis was diagnosed with autism as a child and didn’t speak until he was nearly three years old. His first words were about an exotic car he saw in a parking lot. Since that day, his parents and teachers have introduced him to letters, colors, and the world with lessons linked with cars. Vehicles are at the center of his closest relationships.

Preston Tucker describes his unique automobile in rare archival footage.

Play the video to learn how cars have been the center of A.J.’s world since he was a baby.

Play this video to watch A.J.’s happiest day, when he had a chance to ride in a Tucker, the 44th produced of those still in existence.

Only 51 Tuckers were made before the company was bankrupted, and just 47 remain. A.J. has voraciously learned about the carmaker Preston Tucker and his revolutionary 1948 creation and wants to see them all. In June, he had the rare chance to ride in one at the Tucker 75th Anniversary celebration at the AACA Museum, America's Transportation Experience, in Hershey, Pennsylvania. Tucker collector Howard Kroplick let A.J. sit next to Preston Tucker's great-grandson Sean Tucker, who was driving the car in the parade. Sean and his twin brother Mike are trying to keep Preston Tucker's legacy alive by helping restore the original vehicles. They both worked on Kroplick's car, which was the 44th produced.

I don’t think I’ve
ever been happier
in my life
— A.J. Margolis

A.J. is shocked to see a row of six Tuckers at the 75th Anniversary celebration of the car at the AACA Museum, America’s Transportation Experience, in Hershey, Pennsylvania in June 2023.

A.J is wicked smart and sees the world through the prism of cars. Though he’s only ten-years-old, A.J. is obsessed with the Tucker48 with its unusual three headlights and ahead-of-its-time safety features. Could he unveil a revolutionary, environmentally-friendly new car of the future inspired by the Tucker48 at the car’s 100th Anniversary? A.J. insists he’s moved on from the Tucker EV, and sees the next iteration as a hydrogen-powered vehicle.

Preston Tucker’s great-grandson Mike gives A.J. a tour of the AACA Museum, America’s Transportation Experience, in Hershey, Pennsylvania, which is considered the “center of the Tucker universe.”

A.J. inspects his model of the first Tucker ever made, the prototype known as the “Tin Goose.”
